OK, so my friend Karen and I try to get to the Colvin Center (the "gym" on campus) three times per week. Sometimes we do really well, other times not so good. Anyway, now that's it's a bazillion degrees outside, and the last thing we really want to do is sweat indoors on the elipticals, we've decided to try "water walking." The pool at said Colvin Center offers the unique feature of a "resistance" river. Basically jets of water shoot out of the wall and create even more resistance that simply walking through still water. (that's water that's not moving...not the town in which I reside!!)

So this water moves around in a circular path. There are really kinda two circles to it...the outer circle (which is where we walk) and the innter circle. One must be VERY careful when walking by the entrance to the inner circle because the force of the water is likely to suck you right in. Then you're stuck in the "vortex from hell" because the current is so strong that it's damn near impossible to get out. I swear it's what the salmon must feel like when they're swimming upstream to spawn. The water is swirling viciously around, spinning me every which way and that, and I'm trying so "gracefully" to get out of the said "vortex from hell" with some shred of composure without completely being sucked under the churning current. Round and round I go, desperately grabbing at the wall in an effort to get myself out of the vortex from hell.

On the advice of my friend Karen, I have started wearing water shoes when we go water walking. The shoes do provide a bit more traction than bare feet, however, the look of these shoes when accompanied by swimming attire is less than attractive!! (WAY less!)
