2005-04-15 - 9:33 a.m. Okay, the top story in our newspaper last night was there are plans to build a second Super Wal-Mart right here on the west side of our fair city. Granted, the west side does lack for shopportunities; however, this town DOES NOT need another friggin' Sprawl-Mart. They already have a monopoly here. If the town is so hell-bent on providing more shopportunities for its citizens, then put in a damn Target or even a K-Mart. ANYTHING besides Wally-World. But it seems the Sprawl-Mart Nazis have the city commissioners tightly by the balls. The article claimed that nearly $1 million annually was spent at the Wal-Marts in neighborhing towns/cities. That's a bunch of crap. My spin on it is that nearly $1 million is spent annually in neighboring towns/cities that have Target or K-Mart. I know my fair share of shopping dollars leave this town and are spent at a Target elsewhere. We want some variety damnit. Do you have any idea how hard it is to shop for kids' birthday parties when there's like one whole choice of places at which to shop? Nothing quite like going to the party and seeing that four other kids picked out the same damn gift you did because Sprawl-Mart only carries two varieties of Ninja Turtles. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox for now. But just let it be known that we DO NOT need a new store that just adds to the monopoly we're already faced with. And while you're at it, how about getting us an Olive Garden, too.
